Ocumicho ceramic figurine group. Mexico. Early 20th century. Approx. 29.5 cm tall. Ceramic. Polychromatic. A detailed depiction of the underworld, showing skeletal figures surrounding a monster, possibly a chupacabra (the infamous Latin American “goat-sucker” monster). “Ocumicho Chupacabra” refers to handmade clay figures and folk art from the indigenous Purépecha village of Ocumicho in Michoacán, Mexico. Ocumicho is internationally known for its whimsical, colorful ceramic figures that playfully blend everyday life, religion, and local folklore. The chupacabra is a frequent subject in these highly detailed sculptures, often depicted in surreal or macabre scenes. These unique terracotta pieces often depict the skeletal underworld or mischievous devils interacting with or chasing the mythical creature. Slight signs of wear due to age. See photos for condition.
