Guglielmo Achille CAVELLINI (1914 - 1990). Portrait of Gislind Nabakowski. 1980. The sheet measures approx. 32 cm x 24 cm. Approx. 34.5 cm x 27 cm with frame. Marker. Sketch / drawing / profile of the German art historian Gislind Nabakowski. Inscribed on the side: “Ho eseguito il ritratto a Gislind in due minuti e 48 secondi” (I drew the portrait of Gislind in two minutes and 48 seconds). On the lower right, a personal handwritten dedication: “per ricordare il nostro incontro nella mia casa a Brescia il 3 luglio 1980” (in memory of our meeting at my home in Brescia on July 3, 1980). On the lower left is a red stamp by the Italian conceptual artist. The imprint “Autostoricizzazione” (self-historicization) was a central concept in Cavellini’s art. He used such stamps to proclaim himself a historical artist, often within the context of his so-called Mail Art (postal art). The dates “1914–2014” refer to the artist’s 100th birthday. Slight age-related signs of wear. Frame is scuffed. See photos for condition. Provenance: Private collection, Hesse.
