373 - 19th Cent. Blackened Hilt Sword 19th century Artist/Designer/Manufacturer: Unidentified Maker (Likely a 19th-century municipal, theatrical, or stylized fraternal manufacturer utilizing an eclectic, neo-historical pattern). Marking(s): None Materials: Blade: Forged or cast carbon steel (showing areas of significant active dark oxidation, standard pitting, and rust freckling throughout). Hilt / Guard / Pommel: Black-finished solid wood. Grip: Smooth-shaped, contoured grip section integrated continuously into the pommel assembly. Cataloguer's Note: This piece represents a highly atypical, eclectic non-regulation sword or hanger, likely dating to the 19th century. Unlike standardized military patterns, the hilt configuration is unusual, combining a heavy, squared D-guard knucklebow with an up-turned baluster-turned quillon and a matching, multi-tiered turned baluster pommel. L 29.25" x W (guard) 3"
