Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), rare poster “Bal Banal”, Paris 1924 (B+) Rare event poster for the “Bal Banal” on 14 March 1924 at the Salle Bullier in Paris. Typographic print on tinted paper with a separately printed lithograph after a drawing by Pablo Picasso positioned in the centre, depicting a couple in a sensual pose. Signed in the stone “Picasso” at lower left. An important historical document of the Parisian avant-garde and the artistic culture of the Montparnasse district, which was one of the centres of international artistic life in the 1920s. The poster advertises the Bal Banal organised by the Union des Artistes Russes. Picasso’s image was created as an entry in a poster competition, in which it took second place behind the design by Alexey Brodovitch. Probably produced in only a very small edition. One of the few surviving examples; only three others are known to us. Poster dimensions: approx. 123.5 x 84 cm. Lithograph dimensions: approx. 63 x 56 cm. Rolled. Age-related browning and small losses along the edges. No cosmetic enhancements or restoration. Condition: B+.
