Ippolito Caffi (Belluno 1809–Lissa 1866) Oil on canvas Festival in Venice Dimensions: cm. Signed lower left: Caffi 1854 This splendid painting, previously unpublished, represents an exceptional example of the work of the Venetian master Ippolito Caffi: his ability to blend painterly skill through fluid yet decisive brushstrokes, the depiction of what appears to be a noble wedding set against a backdrop rich in figures and meticulous in detail, all within a chromatic and atmospheric composition highlighted by the “moment”—namely, the sunset. All of this is masterfully rendered in this magnificent work.
