Sanson d'Abbeville (Nicolas), *Duchy and Government of Brittany*. 1650. An interesting map from the mid-17th century, 42.5 x 55 cm, hand-colored. Nicolas Sanson d'Abbeville, born in Abbeville in 1600, is considered one of the founders of French cartography; noticed by Cardinal Richelieu for his precise work, he was introduced to King Louis XIII, who appointed him Ordinary Geographer to the King. He also served as a geography tutor to Louis XIII and Louis XIV. The map is in fine condition, with a small tear at the edge.
