Round side table made of thuja burl veneer and chiseled, gilded bronze. The circular glass-topped tabletop features, at its center, a round porcelain medallion depicting the design of Madame Du Barry’s small “Amours” service, surrounded by twelve neoclassical medallions made of Wedgwood porcelain. It rests on a tripod base with double bamboo-style column-like legs, rising above a triangular crossbar with concave sides, topped by a round shelf with an openwork gallery and a baluster base. The piece rests on arched feet adorned with scrapers. Louis XVI style, likely commissioned by the haberdasher Dominique Daguerre from Adam Weisweiler (1744–1820). H. 76 cm – W. 42 cm (minor wear) Note: Although Weisweiler and Daguerre produced several versions of this model incorporating Wedgwood porcelain medallions—which were very fashionable in 18th-century France—the examples adorned with signs of the zodiac are particularly rare. Known examples include one housed at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg; another sold at Christie’s in London on July 1, 1976 (lot 64); and a third from the collection of Lady Magnus-Allcroft (acquired before 1914) and sold at Christie’s in London on June 10, 1993, lot 26.
