Great Britain The Balmoral Album. With a chromolithographed title page, 10 chromolithographed album pages, and a total of 34 inserted portrait photographs (vintage prints, albumen prints, CdV, and cabochons). Circa 1880–1895. 4°. Blind-stamped contemporary leather binding with a lily motif, gold edges, and a metal clasp (worn, bumped, block separated, spine missing). The decoratively designed album pages feature display windows entwined with flowers as well as nature and landscape motifs, including views of Scottish castles and palaces (Balmoral, Invergarry, Dudhope, Broughty and Kilchurn Castle, Melrose, Kelso and Dryburgh Abbey, Lochnagar, etc.). - The portraits (by C. Vandyk, Clarke & Clarke, Elliot & Fry, A&G Taylor, and others in London) mostly depict men (including, presumably, two clergymen and a gentleman wearing a medal and an official or (Masonic?) chain), three children, and two ladies. - Without the music box that was once built into the back cover. - Display windows along the edges partly with discoloration; pages partly somewhat dusty; photos partly slightly stained; otherwise generally well preserved.
