Blind-embossed original cloth binding with gold-stamped title on the cover (slightly rubbed and somewhat scuffed, with a few spots). 2nd edition of this monumental work of 19th-century scientific cartography. - Espenhorst 148 - Engelmann 77 - The maps were executed as extremely fine, highly detailed steel engravings. Rather than merely depicting geography, the maps provided synoptic representations—that is, the state of borders, trade routes, and territories at specific historical periods. Contains: I. *Atlas Antiquus* (1850) with 27 maps with colored borders. - II.
