Voltaire The Bible finally explained by many almoners to H. M. the King of Prussia. From the French of Mr. v. Voltaire. Third, enlarged and improved edition. 2 pp. in 1 vol. With 2 engraved frontispieces. London (i.e. Vienna, Moessle, 1787). 4 vols, 296, 280 p. 8°. HLdr. d. Zt. with gilt spine and paste paper cover (somewhat rubbed and bumped). Rare. - Not in VD18 - Contrary to the edition note on the title, this is probably the first edition in German. The French original was published in 1776 under the title "La Bible enfin expliquée, par plusieurs aumôniers de S.M.L.R.D.P.", the new edition followed in 1777. It is possible that the indication "3rd edition" refers to the total number of editions published to date. - Somewhat browned and slightly stained. Overall a good copy.
