Aldo Rossi (1931–1997) Convento Prototype Office cabinet Stained maple and metal Unifor edition, Turate Designed in 1990 H195 W98 D49 cm Model created for the furnishings of the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, Netherlands (1990–1995). Provenance: from Aldo Rossi’s studio, the artist’s personal collection. Between 1990 and 1995, Aldo Rossi, winner of the 1990 Pritzker Prize, built the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, recognizable by its zinc-clad dome on the banks of the Meuse River. For the interior design, he collaborated with the furniture manufacturer Unifor to create a line of furniture that included the “Convento” cabinet—“convent”: a storage unit with an architectural silhouette, evoking a facade or a monastic cell. This prototype comes directly from the architect’s studio and his personal collection. An exceptional provenance that links the object to the very genesis of one of Rossi’s major projects.
