251 - Alessandro Mendini

Alessandro Mendini Libreria Tempietto Bookcase Calacatta marble and glass Up & Up H 113 L 280 D 30 cm 160 kg Based in Massa, at the foot of the Carrara quarries, the Up & Up design studio has commissioned leading architects and designers to create marble furniture and objects. Alessandro Mendini created the Libreria Tempietto, or “little temple”: a low bookcase nearly three meters long that evokes sacred architecture scaled down to the size of a piece of furniture. Calacatta marble—white veined with golden gray—combined with glass, gives the piece a monumental and luminous presence. A work representative of Mendini’s classic irony, straddling historical reference and postmodern design.
