Lignin, the polymer that gives wood its rigidity, is largely discarded during paper production; the designer recovers it and combines it with cellulose to create a moldable material. “Picea,” the Latin name for spruce, evokes this forest origin: the lamp reimagines the very components of the tree in a new form.
