Basse Stittgen (born in 1990) Picea lamp Lamp Lignin derived from wood, cellulose, LED One-of-a-kind piece 2025 H56 L30 P30 cm Basse Stittgen belongs to a generation of designers who place materials research at the heart of their practice, working with industrial or natural byproducts. Lignin, the polymer that gives wood its rigidity, is largely discarded during paper production; the designer recovers it and combines it with cellulose to create a moldable material. “Picea,” the Latin name for spruce, evokes this forest origin: the lamp reimagines the very components of the tree in a new form. A piece at the intersection of design, materials science, and the circular economy.
