MAARTEN VAN SEVEREN (1956–2005) SCH99, known as Schraag Collapsible trestle Bulo Edition, Belgium Year of creation: 1999 H73 L50 P85 cm A contemporary interpretation of the traditional trestle, the SCH99 model combines three slender aluminum legs with a support element: one vertical leg and two angled legs ensure its stability. The legs unscrew and store inside this element, which then forms a portable case. The trestle can accommodate a tabletop selected separately. Designed in 1999, a few years before the designer’s untimely death, the SCH99 illustrates how Maarten Van Severen approached even the most ordinary objects: by stripping them down to their essentials, without ever sacrificing functionality. The Belgian manufacturer Bulo, which specializes in office furniture, handles its production. The concept of a collapsible trestle, whose aluminum legs store inside their own base, reflects his focus on mobility and flexibility in workspaces. When paired with a tabletop, it forms a desk or table with exceptionally clean lines.
