François-Xavier Lalanne (1927–2008) Hen Egg Cup Biscuit porcelain, Designed by François-Xavier Lalanne for La Porcelaine de Paris. Circa 1990 Signed “Lalanne,” with the manufacturer’s double-arrow monogram and marked “Paris.” H 7.5 L 8 W 9 cm In very good original condition. Throughout his career, François-Xavier Lalanne made animals the central subject of his work, often giving them a practical function: sheep-seats, rhinoceros-desks, hippopotamus-bathtubs. This hen-shaped egg cup follows the same logic, on a scale suited for the breakfast table, with obvious humor: the hen cradles the egg. The matte white porcelain body captures the purity of the simplified forms characteristic of the artist. Produced by La Porcelaine de Paris, it offers a way to experience Lalanne’s bestiary in an intimate, signed, and stamped format.
