François-Xavier Lalanne (1927–2008), *La Condition végétale*, depicting Claude Lalanne’s *Choupattes*, created in 1964 for Jeanine Restany’s Galerie J Color lithograph on Arches vellum 1978 by Galerie La Hune in Paris Edition of 15 copies. Signed in pencil “F. Lalanne” and numbered “X/XV.” Fifth plate in the Allomorphoses series H50.1 L33 cm; image H25.6 L22.2 cm; Frame H53 L43 cm Provenance: Swedish private collection; Galleri Östermalm, Stockholm. In good original condition, with two pin holes beneath the mat. The Choupattes—cabbages mounted on chicken legs—are among Claude Lalanne’s most famous creatures: created in 1964 and exhibited at Jeanine Restany’s Galerie J, they epitomize the Lalanne couple’s surrealist humor, in which plants and animals metamorphose into one another. In this lithograph, François-Xavier Lalanne reinterprets his wife’s creation under the title *La Condition végétale*, as part of the *Allomorphoses* series, dedicated to these hybridizations. Published by La Hune, the iconic bookstore-gallery in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, only fifteen copies of the print were produced.
