Anonymous Sculpture Carved and polished wood, with a tapered and slender form, on a trapezoidal base. Mid-20th century H 25.6 cm. In good original condition. With its tapered silhouette reaching upward, this sculpture can be compared to Constantin Brancusi’s *L’Oiseau dans l’espace*, in which the sculptor reduces the idea of flight to an ascending line. It is part of the tradition of mid-20th-century abstract wood sculpture, alongside the works of Jean Arp and Alexandre Noll, who sought the essential form in a material polished to a smooth finish. The trapezoidal base, serving as a geometric counterpoint, accentuates the form’s momentum. A discreet and elegant work.
