Satoshi Itasaka The Birth Lamp Pendant Light Aluminum, light bulbs, cables Circa 2020 H85 D75 cm In its pendant version, The Birth Lamp leaves the table to float in space, like a cloud or a cocoon. Satoshi Itasaka continues his exploration of light as an event: the three-dimensionally shaped aluminum captures and reflects the light from the bulbs, creating shifting reflections depending on the viewing angle. With a diameter of seventy-five centimeters, the pendant light serves as a focal point in a room. It follows the Japanese tradition of sculptural lighting, from paper lanterns to Isamu Noguchi’s experiments with his Akari series.
