Luciano Bertolotto Fanciulla Throne Sculptural chair with a figurative backrest Alpine pine and chestnut, assembled without nails Date of creation: 2000 H183 L49 P51 cm A chair with a very slender backrest, whose silhouette rises above a low seat and two glided legs. The sculpted top evokes a stylized figure. The irregular shapes, visible joints, and deeply textured surface give this piece a presence that is as much sculpture as it is furniture. The piece corresponds to the “Trono Fanciulla” model featured in the Luciano Bertolotto catalog, *Legni d’armonia*, published by the Fondazione Arciso Mastrotto in Arzignano. This page also features details of the carved portion of the backrest. The photographs of this example show a pronounced patina, scuffs, and signs of wear; they do not allow for the determination of the date of manufacture or the presence of any restorations. Bibliography: Luciano Bertolotto, *Legni d’armonia*, Fondazione Mastrotto, Arzignano; the “Trono Fanciulla” model is reproduced therein. “A self-taught cabinetmaker and sculptor, Luciano Bertolotto developed a body of work in wood joinery inspired by folk furniture and figurative sculpture. With its monumental backrest and carved top, the Trono Fanciulla blurs the line between a chair and a sculpture.”
