Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Measurements: 40 x 60 cm; 59 x 79 cm (frame). Leopoldo Torres Agüero was an Argentine painter, muralist, and sculptor whose career evolved from figurative to abstract art. After training in Buenos Aires, he furthered his studies in Paris, where he became acquainted with mural art and avant-garde movements. Between 1959 and 1961, he lived in Japan, an experience that proved decisive for his work, as it incorporated the influence of Zen philosophy and Eastern calligraphy. From then on, he developed his characteristic “sensitive geometry,” based on the relationship between line, color, and space. His work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions and biennials and has received major awards, including the Palanza Prize (1989) and the title of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters of France. At the same time, he pursued a diplomatic career, eventually becoming Argentina’s ambassador to UNESCO in Paris. His work is represented in major museums and public collections in Argentina, France, the United States, and other countries, including the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires, the Centre Pompidou, and the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. With a label on the back from Galería Bonino (Buenos Aires). The frame has some minor damage.
