Spanish School; 20th century. “Bullfighting Scene.” Oil on canvas. Measurements: 60 x 90 cm. This work offers a dynamic and deeply pictorial vision of the world of bullfighting, approached from a vantage point close to the barrier and far removed from the solemnity of more traditional compositions. The focal point is the imposing head of the horse, situated at the center of the composition, which bursts into the foreground and visually anchors the entire scene. Surrounding it, bullfighters and spectators crowd together, captured in a moment of activity and tension, while in the background—barely sketched—one can sense the atmosphere of the bullring. One of the work’s greatest appeals lies precisely in this fragmentary and spontaneous conception. The artist does not seem to be seeking a meticulous narrative, but rather to convey the atmosphere and movement characteristic of the spectacle. The proximity of the figures, the almost photographic framing, and the absence of a frontal viewpoint make the viewer a direct witness to the action, as if observing the scene from inside the arena. From a technical standpoint, the loose and energetic brushwork stands out, particularly visible in the layers of color on the costumes, the horse, and the barrier.
