Sergei Vasilievich Chekhonin – Untitled Untitled Watercolor and gouache over pencil. Probably late 1920s. 16.3 x 12.8 cm. Signed. (24) An exceedingly charming composition, executed with meticulous attention to the smallest detail, by the Russian émigré in Paris, who at times earned his living as a porcelain painter. In its freedom from any representational elements, the work is as unusual for the artist as it is formally well-thought-out and carefully composed, particularly due to the centrally placed circular form filled with minute details. - On sturdy watercolor board. - Mounted on a black backing board at the top edge, possibly by the artist himself, and handwritten with “35” there. - Signed. - Very well preserved. - Formerly: Galerie Jean Chauvelin, Paris, and a private collection in Düsseldorf. 16.3 x 12.8 cm Sergei Vasilievich Chekhonin (1878 Novgorod, Russia – 1936 Lörrach)
