Max Cole – Kaua Kaua Oil on canvas. 1989. 84 x 124.5 cm. Signed, dated, and titled on the reverse. (21) A large-scale painting executed as a meditative exercise, featuring an artistic vocabulary pushed to the extreme of minimalism: the tiny, individually painted vertical lines stand on horizontal bands that, upon prolonged viewing, begin to reveal differences in their coloration. - The paint surface is in immaculate condition; slightly stained on the reverse. - Signed again on the stretcher and marked with the artist’s New York address (ballpoint pen). 84 x 124.5 cm Max Cole (Kansas 1937 – lives in Somerset, California)
