DAVID SHRIGLEY (Macclesfield, England, 1968). "You will not stop me from singing my song," 2021. Published by Shirg Shop, Copenhagen. Silkscreen print, edition 70/125. Signed and numbered on the reverse. Framed with museum-quality glass. Purchased at Shirg Shop, Copenhagen. Measurements: 76 x 56 cm; 88 x 68 cm (frame). “You will not stop me from singing my song. I will sing it forever” is a visually direct piece, designed to make us reflect, in keeping with the style Shrigley has come to be known for. David Shrigley is renowned for his seemingly childlike and humorous style, which combines the absurd with critical commentary on everyday life and the art world. Shrigley, who considers himself an outsider in the art world, is known for creating two-dimensional compositions that address the trivial, strange, and unsettling elements of everyday life from a seemingly naive perspective, yet one that is full of irony and satire. His visual language is based on the use of crossed-out words, scribbles, and irregular lines. Shrigley’s work has been exhibited at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the Statens Kunstmuseum in Copenhagen, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles. In 2013, he was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize for his solo exhibition *David Shrigley: Brain Activity* at the Hayward Gallery in London. He is also active in film, sculpture, photography, and illustration.
