Joaquín Michavila studied at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts in Valencia and later became a professor of fine arts there. He was one of the pioneers of abstract art in Valencia, participating in groups such as Los Siete, Grupo Parpalló, and Antes del Arte. His career spanned various phases of evolution and experimentation; thus, we find constructivist series in which geometry plays a central role, exploring the fragmentation of space through flat surfaces, always while maintaining absolute compositional rigor. Meanwhile, in 1978, a new Michavila emerged as the creator of a justly celebrated series, “El llac,” which was followed by the “El riu” series. Throughout his career, Michavila held exhibitions throughout Spain, as well as in Rome, Florence, Basel, Denver, São Paulo, New York, and Vienna. He was honored with numerous awards, including the Alfonso Roig Prize from the Provincial Council of Valencia in 1996 and the Gold Medal of the City of Valencia in 1997, in addition to being named an Alcorí Distinguit in 1998. Listed in the catalog *Ximo Michavila: Materia Reservada*.
