Illustrated edition featuring 30 drypoint engravings by Gaston Barret, including one on the cover and 20 full-page plates. One of 118 copies numbered “Auvergne,” signed by the author and the illustrator, to which two rejected plates have been added. A beautiful edition of this naturalist novel set in the heart of the Sologne region, for which Genevoix participated in several nighttime poaching expeditions.
