SOPHOCLES. The Seven Tragedies of Sophocles. Together with all the Greek commentaries and a literal Latin translation by Vitus Winsemius. [Geneva], Paul Estienne, 1603. In-4, marbled brown calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, red title label, red edges (contemporary binding). "This edition is highly regarded, even though it is printed on poor-quality paper; it contains Winsemius’s Latin version and H. Estienne’s notes, which are not included in the 1568 edition; thus, it is not a mere reprint of the latter." (Brunet, V, p. 447). The seven surviving Greek tragedies by Sophocles are thus accompanied by Winsemius’s Latin prose translation and the scholarly annotations of Joachim Camerarius and Henri Estienne (the publisher’s father). Faint water stains, foxing. Tear on the lower cap, rounded corners.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
