BOSSUET. Discourse on Universal History. Paris, Printed by Didot the Elder, 1784. 4 vols. in-18, red morocco, triple gilt fillet framing the text block, plain spine decorated with a repeating floral motif (contemporary binding). A delightful edition from the “Collection of Classical French and Latin Authors,” printed “by order of the King for the education of His Highness the Dauphin.” Only 450 copies were printed on vellum paper. This copy is complete with the “Royal Patent” obtained by Didot (2 folios bound into Volume I). Volume I: stains on the top cover; very minor wormholes at both ends.
