Universal Genève - Polerouter "NS" A Geneva neo-vintage wristwatch with center seconds and date in near-mint condition Ref. 869108-04, Cal. 1-69, Dimensions 35 mm, circa 1965, Origin: Switzerland, Original box, Accessories, original clasp Case: Steel, screw-back. Dial: Black “step dial” with a red crosshair design, tritium hands, and tritium luminous dots. Movement: Automatic. The “NS” is considered one of the rarer and more sought-after models in the legendary Universal Genève “Polerouter” line. The “Polerouter” model was designed by Gérald Genta in 1954 and remained on the market until the early 1960s. The “Polerouter” is the watch that launched the 24-year-old designer’s illustrious career. Universal Genève took its name from the fact that the watch was specially designed for SAS (Scandinavian Airline System) pilots who flew the Royal Viking route from Copenhagen to Los Angeles, which took them over the North Magnetic Pole—the so-called polar route. The “Polerouter” was available in different materials and with several dial variations. Inside runs an automatic caliber with a microrotor, which was patented in 1958 and made servicing the watch much easier because the mechanism was accessible without first having to remove the rotor completely. The “Polerouter” combines a fascinating history with striking beauty and technical innovation. Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended. Please note that leather straps made from endangered or protected species—such as alligator, crocodile, or lizard—are used in our catalog or on our website for illustrative purposes only. For customs-related reasons, such straps cannot be shipped outside the EU.
