The Egyptian style within Art Deco is a design movement of the 1920s and 1930s that fused ancient Egyptian motifs with the clear, geometric, and modern forms of Art Deco. Its historical backdrop was the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb by Howard Carter, which triggered a worldwide wave of “Egyptomania.”” The Art Deco aesthetic—already oriented toward symmetry, geometry, and opulence—blended perfectly with the monumentality and clean lines of ancient Egyptian art. This ladies’ wristwatch is a beautiful and highly unusual piece from the Art Deco era. The tonneau-shaped case is distinguished by its period-appropriate, multicolored enamel floral decoration. At both the 6 and 12 o’clock positions, a ruby cabochon is set in the shape of a ruby scarab. Case: very good. Dial: good, oxidized. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended.
