Angelus - New Old Stock Chronodato (*) A highly attractive vintage wrist chronograph with full calendar - new old stock Cal. 215, Case No. 61648 36, Dimensions 38 mm, circa 1945, Origin: Switzerland Case: 18K gold, push-back, rectangular chronograph pushers. Dial: Silvered. Movement: Manual. This attractive classic vintage piece features long, gently curved, fluted lugs and a narrow bezel. The charmingly aged, brushed dial has two sub-dials for the auxiliary seconds and the 45-minute counter, pyramid hour markers, applied “12” and “6,” and beautifully shaped leaf-style hands. The month is displayed in English in a small window at the “12” o’clock position, with the day of the week opposite at the “6” o’clock position. The dial also features an outer date display, indicated by a hand with a red tip. Angelus was founded by the Stolz brothers in 1891 in Le Locle. They produced distinctive timepieces from the very beginning, and the quality of the company’s pocket watch and repeater movements was officially recognized with an award at a Swiss national exhibition in 1914. The Stolz brothers also soon began producing wristwatches, particularly chronographs. Even today, the name Angelus is primarily associated with these stopwatches. The company designed its own calibers to develop the complications for its watches, such as the Chronodato, which was the world’s first mass-produced chronograph with a calendar function. In the late 1970s, the company fell victim to the quartz crisis. Today, only the large “Angelus” lettering on the old company building in Le Locle serves as a reminder of this maker of fine chronographs. Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended. Please note that leather straps made from endangered or protected species—such as alligator, crocodile, or lizard—are used in our catalog or on our website for illustrative purposes only.
