A. Golay Leresche & Fils - Five-Minute Repeater (*) A very fine, heavy, five-minute repeating hunting-case pocket watch Movm. No. 13496, Case No. 13496, Dimensions 52 mm, circa 1890, Weight 126 g, Origin Switzerland/France Case: 18K rose gold, front and back covers with intricately engraved monograms, glazed movement. David Auguste Golay (1814–1895)—known as Auguste—was the son of Jacques David Golay of the Vallée de Joux and Susanne Louise Meylan. In August 1837, 23-year-old Auguste married Susanne Leresche, the daughter of a watchmaker and a regulator herself. He founded his first company that same year and named it “Golay-Leresche” after himself and his wife. In 1841, he entered into a partnership with Louis Gunther, but it lasted only a year. Auguste continued his own work with great success; his products were of excellent quality, and he was a shrewd businessman. He frequently exhibited his work at international exhibitions and received countless awards. After Auguste’s death in 1895, his sons Pierre and Louis Edouard took over; they formed a partnership with Stahl in 1896, and the company operated as “Golay Fils & Stahl” from then on. Source: “Dictionnaire des Horlogers Genevois” by Osvaldo Patrizzi, Geneva 1998 Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, capable of running, cleaning recommended.
