The legendary “Ingenieur” was designed by IWC’s technical director Albert Pellaton, who was the mastermind behind the company’s first automatic movements—calibers 81 and 85. The functional Ingenieur model was produced for the civilian market and was available starting in 1954 in steel or gold and in a variety of styles. The famous “lightning bolt” signature running through the name “Ingenieur” was chosen to emphasize the watch’s anti-magnetic properties, as the soft-iron shield protects the movement from magnetic fields. One of the earliest functional watches to feature a distinctive, timeless design, the Ingenieur models have become a style icon among collectors. With its stunning stainless steel case and distinctive black dial, this Ingenieur is certainly not “just” a timepiece.
