Guinand - Full Calendar Chronograph (*) An attractive vintage Geneva wrist chronograph with full calendar and moon phase Cal. Valjoux 88, Dimensions 38 mm, circa 1960, Origin: Switzerland Case: 18K gold, push-back. Dial: Silvered. Movement: Manual. This Full Calendar Chronograph, housed in an 18-carat gold case, features rectangular chronograph pushers and two correctors on the left side for setting the months and the pointer date in conjunction with the moon phase. Below the applied “12” are two windows for the day and the month, both in French. There is also a black tachymeter scale on the outer edge of the dial. The dial has darkened slightly and displays a beautiful patina. The Guinand company was founded in 1865 in Les Brenets in the Canton of Neuchâtel. By the turn of the century, its product line already included a complete series of complicated watches. Around 1900, Leon Guinand made a name for himself in professional circles with the development of a new tachymeter chronograph. As early as 1910, the company began shifting production from pocket watches to wristwatch chronographs. Step by step, a range of complicated wristwatch chronographs was developed. In addition, products for specialized applications continued to be developed, such as the “de compteur à retour” model—a stopwatch with a zero-reset function while in flight—and a new “Compteur-rattrapante.” In the 1990s, the brand was acquired by Helmut Sinn in Frankfurt, a pioneer in the development of aviation watches. Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended. Please note that leather straps made from endangered or protected species—such as alligator, crocodile, or lizard—are used in our catalog or on our website for illustrative purposes only. For customs-related reasons, such straps cannot be shipped outside the EU.
