Gubelin - World Time A fine Geneva table clock with world time display, modeled after Louis Cottier Cal. Lemania 24, Dimensions 110 mm, circa 1960, Origin: Switzerland Case: Brass, gilt, rotating bezel with engraved city names. Dial: Silvered, with applied Arabic numerals. Movement: Bridge movement with an 8-day power reserve. Toward the end of the 19th century, a new sense of mobility began to emerge among people, and watchmakers around the world had to further develop and improve their designs to accommodate this. The globe is divided into 24 time zones, each representing 15 degrees of longitude, starting at the Greenwich meridian. Clocks accounted for this with a rotating bezel, which was set so that the local time was at 12 o’clock. The time in any of the locations marked on the bezel could then be read from the outer day/night ring. The inventor of this system was Louis Cottier, a renowned and immensely talented watchmaker from Geneva. Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, capable of running, cleaning recommended.
