247 - Joseph Derchinger - Coach Clock

Joseph Derchinger - Coach Clock A very fine Viennese hour-striking coach clock with hour repeater and alarm Dimensions: 108 mm, circa 1720, Weight: 888 g, Origin: Austria Case: Outer case—brass/silver, covered with tortoiseshell, sound holes, large lateral hinge. Inner case—silver, with a foliate openwork and engraved inhabited band and bezel, rear bell. Dial: Silver, champlevé, central alarm disc with Arabic numerals. Movement: Full-plate movement, chain/fusee, spiral pillars, 2 barrels for the alarm and striking train, 1 hammer, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance. The hour hand is mounted at the “12” position on the alarm disc. Since this disc is firmly attached to the hour wheel and therefore rotates as the clock runs, the hour hand indicates the respective hours. On the central axis there is also a small adjustable hand used to set the alarm time. The repeater strikes the preceding hour during the first half of the hour and the upcoming hour during the second half of the hour. Joseph Derchinger was certified as a master clockmaker in Vienna in 1717. He died in 1736. Case: very good, worn, slightly scuffed. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, needs cleaning.
