Record Watch Co - Observatory Tested (*) An extremely rare railroad watch—Officially Approved by the Railroad—with original Neuchâtel test case Movm. No. 0043, Cal. 435, Dimensions 51 mm, circa 1960, Weight 103 g, Origin: Switzerland Case: Steel, push-back, glazed movement. Dial: Enamel. Movement: Bridge movement, lever escapement, Glucydur screw balance. In the 1950s, Record produced a standard railroad pocket watch for Ball, which was the only service pocket watch with Incabloc protection used in the U.S. Then, in 1961, Longines acquired Record, and the company continued to operate under Longines until 1991. Like so many other brands, Record was unable to compete with quartz watches. Although they may have remained in business through the quartz crisis, their heyday had long since passed. Around 1954, Ball began testing watches in Neuchâtel. They used a Guillaume balance wheel and claimed it was the most accurate watch they had ever tested! The Ball Railroad Company has combined its sixty-five years of experience in advanced and modern horology to create the first and only shock-resistant railroad watch designed for the most discerning, appreciative, and critical connoisseurs of time—the railroad men. These men consider the BALL RR Watch to be the railroad’s most honored watch. Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, capable of running; cleaning recommended.
