Galli Zurich - School Spring Detent Chronometer (*) A large, heavy Zurich lever chronometer "First Class Chronomètre" Movm. No. 16820, Cal. 52 mm, Case No. 16820, Dimensions 65 mm, circa 1910, Weight 204 g, Origin: Switzerland, Original box Case: Silver, smooth, case maker’s punch mark “AF”. The Swiss jewelry and watch retailer Galli was founded in 1882 by Paul Galli, who took over a small watchmaker’s shop on Oberdorfstraße. Paul Galli had completed his watchmaking apprenticeship with Louis Futter in Königsberg. After finishing school, the young watchmaker embarked on years of travel, which eventually led him to Zurich. The Oberdorfstraße shop focused primarily on watch repair rather than sales. Max Galli later took over the business. Having trained in his parents’ shop and with a watchmaker in Le Ponts-de-Martel, he took over the business. Bruno Galli, representing the third generation, joined the company in 1953. After completing his watchmaking training at the Technicum in Le Locle, he remained there to finish his tourbillon marine chronometer, with which he won numerous awards. The business is now run by the fifth and sixth generations and is regarded as a well-established institution for luxury watch and jewelry repairs in Zurich. Major brands such as IWC have dedicated special limited editions to the firm. Source: watch-wiki.org Case: very good. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended.
