The École d’horlogerie de Genève (Geneva Watchmaking School) is the oldest watchmaking school in Switzerland and a globally renowned institution for precision mechanics and horology. It was founded in 1824 by the Société des Arts de Genève. Today, it is part of the Centre de formation professionnelle technique (CFPT) and trains specialists in watchmaking, watch production, and micromechanics. A hallmark of its curriculum is the tradition of the so-called Montre École (school watch), in which students design, manufacture, assemble, and regulate a complete watch entirely on their own over the course of their studies. In the past, the school was administered by the city or canton of Geneva and, for a time, was also responsible for awarding the famous Geneva Seal (Poinçon de Genève). The Poinçon de Genève (Geneva Seal) is a legally protected hallmark of quality and origin for mechanical watches. It certifies the highest level of craftsmanship, durability, and exclusive manufacturing within the canton of Geneva. Case: very good. Dial: very good.
