Jaeger-LeCoultre - Atmos Royale An attractive burgundy-red table clock Ref. 5856, Cal. 526, Dimensions 270 x 230 x 140 mm, circa 1980, Origin: Switzerland Case: Bordeaux red moiré, glazed. Dial: Gilded. Movement: Gilded, torsion pendulum. At 27 cm high and 23 cm wide, the “Atmos Royale” is considerably larger than the “standard,” typically quite plain Atmos clock. The protruding base and the bun feet give this model an almost luxurious appearance, which is emphasized by the striking red lacquer and the unusual gilt dial. The clock is a first-edition “Royale” fitted with caliber 526—as is the second series, while a third series produced in the 1980s used caliber 540. The Royale was available between 1978 and 1984. The Atmos (short for “atmospheric clock”) derives its energy from the expansion and contraction of a capsule filled with ethyl chloride gas that responds to changes in temperature and barometric pressure. The energy produced winds the mainspring. According to the clock’s manufacturers, a temperature difference of 1 Kelvin creates a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. Case: very good, slightly scuffed. Dial: very good. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended.
