Extra Prima, Case No. 6149, Dimensions 22 x 42 mm, circa 1939, Origin: Switzerland Case: 9K gold, tiered, push-back. Dial: Two-tone silvered. Movement: Manual. One of the most elegant of the Rolex shaped watches is certainly the “Rolex Prince.” It features a rectangular shape with flared sides and a slightly curved back, ensuring a better fit on the wrist. In addition to their shape, the main difference between the Rolex Prince watches and most other watches of this era is the Prince’s dual-dial design, which places the hours and minutes at the top and the seconds at the bottom. Because of this feature, the watches were also known as “Doctors’ Watches”—the separation of hours and seconds allowed for precise timing of respiration and pulse. The Rolex Prince watches were crafted in 9k, 14k, and 18k white, yellow, and rose gold, as well as in steel, silver, and platinum. There were also various combinations of these metals. Case: very good, worn. Dial: very good, minor restorations. Movement: very good, runs, needs cleaning.
