Audemars Piguet - Photograph No. 1529 An extremely rare, very fine vintage Geneva wrist chronograph featuring one of the most fascinating early chronograph calibers from the Audemars Piguet manufacture Movm. No. 46842, Cal. 13VZAH, Case No. 46842, Dimensions 33 mm, circa 1946, Origin: Switzerland, Extract from the archives, original gold clasp Case: 18K gold, push-back. Dial: Black. Movement: Manual-winding. According to the accompanying extract from the archives dated September 25, 2026, the original dial was satin white and was replaced with a black dial by Audemars Piguet during a service in 1993. This dial is by Cadran Stern Frères and features an applied Arabic numeral 12 and bar-shaped hour markers. The chronograph pushers are olive-shaped and are referred to by Audemars Piguet as “navettes”; they were a characteristic feature of Audemars Piguet chronographs from the 1930s and 1940s. Inside beats the exceptionally rare hand-wound caliber 13VZAH, one of the most sought-after historical chronograph movements from Audemars Piguet. Its technical foundation was supplied by Valjoux in neighboring Les Bioux, while the ébauches were meticulously finished and assembled in the Audemars Piguet workshops in Le Brassus. Between 1939 and 1946, the manufacture produced only 94 examples of this caliber. The 13-ligne movement features 21 jewels and combines the classic chronograph function with minute and 12-hour counters. Beveled edges, as well as polished and satin-finished surfaces, attest to the high level of craftsmanship with which Audemars Piguet refined the raw movements supplied by Valjoux. With its extremely limited production run and its use in some of the most significant Audemars Piguet chronographs of the 1940s, Caliber 13VZAH is now considered one of the most fascinating examples of the manufacture’s early chronograph production. The history of these watches is described in: “Audemars Piguet 20th Century Complicated Wristwatches,” written by Audemars Piguet, 2018, Le Brassus, pages 184–185. According to Audemars Piguet, 66 examples of “Photograph No. 1529” were produced. Case: very good, slightly worn. Dial: very good, later original. Movement: very good, in working order, cleaning recommended.
