U.re. schwach lesbar in Blei signiert und datiert "Frans Masereel 1927", u.li. betitelt und nummeriert "22/24". WVZ Ritter A a) 64. Wir danken der Frans Masereel Stiftung, namentlich Herrn Karl-Heinz Kles für freundliche Hinweise. Maße: Stk. 43,7 x 35,5 cm, Bl. 68,5 x 54 cm. Frans Masereel 1889 Blankenberge – 1972 Avignon Masereel war Schüler von Jean Delvin an der Genter Akademie und vorwiegend als Holzschneider und Zeichner tätig. 1909–21 unternahm er mehrere Auslandsreisen, u.a. nach England, Tunesien und Frankreich. Masereel schloss sich dem Kreis um Romain Rolland an und übernahm 1924 einen Lehrauftrag in Saarbrücken. Seine Motive entspringen vorwiegend pazifistischen Hintergründen und beziehen ihre Themen aus den allgemeinen Mißständen der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft.
