CHINESE SCREEN, QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD - Coromandel-style lacquered wood, ten panels, depicting a continuous scene with female figures engaged in various activities, set in a paradisiacal garden with two large pavilions. 77 x 171 x 2.6 cm Coromandel-style Chinese lacquer is so named after a coastal region in eastern India, from where this type of artifact—intended primarily for export to Europe—was believed to have been distributed (N. Brugier, *Les laques de Coromandel*, Lausanne 2015). A screen similar in size and decorative style, dated to the Kangxi period, once belonged to the Medici collections in Florence and is currently housed at Palazzo Pitti (F. Morena, From the East Indies to the Court of Tuscany. Collections of Chinese and Japanese Art at Palazzo Pitti, Florence 2005, p. 267, no. 217).
