1879–1880. MANUSCRIPT. (POETRY ALBUM). POEMS. Handwritten album. 4º. A poetry notebook in a single hand, written in meticulous calligraphy between 1879 and 1880, as many of the poems are dated. It is a fair copy, intended for preservation, with no cross-outs and an elegant appearance. 109 p. + 2 folios of index. A pen-and-ink drawing on the first folio serves as a title page. The author is unknown; however, a poem dedicated to Ms. Consuelo de Avilés Arnau and another dedicated to Augusto Avilés lead us to believe they were relatives of the military officer Juan Avilés Arnau, who was born in Tarragona but served in Barcelona. The album is bound in embossed cloth, with the word “POESIE” in silver on the front cover and gold-edged pages. The compositions are clearly influenced by the work of G. A. Bécquer, published in 1871.
