c. 1680 BOOK. (LITERATURE). PEREZ, MARCOS: HISTORY OF THE SEVEN WISE MEN OF ROME. Barcelona: Printed by Rafael Figueró, n.d. Small 8vo. 179 pp. + 1 ill. Woodcut engraving on the title page. Some pagination errors and slight water stains. Ex-libris. Bound in modern hardcover with a label. CCPB 404151-8 lists 1700 as the probable date of printing, although we believe it is somewhat earlier due to the drill holes visible in the boxwood of the woodcut. Palau and Vindel also misdate the year of publication, placing it too late—in 1750—and overlooking the fact that the Figuerós (father and son) were active from 1669 to 1722. The language is clearly archaic, and there are several print runs from different presses, attesting to the high demand for cordel literature.
