1556. BOOK. (HUMANITIES). NOVUM D. N. IESU CHRISTI TESTAMENTUM. PREVIOUSLY TRANSLATED INTO LATIN BY AN ANCIENT INTERPRETER, NOW TRANSLATED ANEW BY THEODORUS BEZA: WITH THE SAME ANNOTATIONS, IN WHICH THE REASON FOR THE INTERPRETATION IS GIVEN. [Geneva:] Oliva Roberti Stephani [Robert Etienne], 1556. Large folio. 336 folios + 41 folios of vocabulary and Hebrew-Chaldean-Greek-Latin. Large typographic woodcut on the title page. Attractive typographic composition, clean printing. Occasional fine watermarks in the lower margin. Bound in full leather, with raised bands, a solid spine, double title labels (though one is missing), painted edges, and a beveled front edge, attached to the binding by the raised bands. Beza’s commentaries on the New Testament were first published in this volume and, a few years later, in the Geneva Bible, by the same publisher. Beza also lends his name to the codex he himself discovered in the library of the Monastery of Saint Irenaeus in Lyon, dating from the 5th century, which contains a Greek version of the Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles (incomplete), and part of the Third Epistle of John.
