1505. BOOK. (MEDICINE). LIBER CANONICIS AVICENNE REVISUS ET AB OMNI ERRORE ME[N]DAQUE PURGATUS SU[M]MAQUE CUM DILIGENTIA IMPRESSUS. Venice: Printed by Octavianus Scotus and the publisher Bonetus Locatellum, 1505. 4º. 453 folios + 1 half-folio. The end bears the printer’s woodcut mark. The colophon indicates that this is the translation by Arnaldo de Villanova. Text in two columns, with spaces for initials and other woodcut initials, with handwritten notes and marginal marks. Handwritten ex-libris on the half-title page. Late 19th-century binding in half leather with raised grain, with a label. Some central leaves have slightly smudged ink. Marginal moisture stains, a few wormholes, and fine worm galleries, deeper on folios 358 through 385 but not affecting the text block. The complete works of the Arab physician Avicenna were translated by Arnaldo de Villanueva between the 13th and 14th centuries, opening the door to Arab medicine in the West.
