FLIGHT LOGS OF FLYING ACE EDMOND DE GAVARDIE Set of two logs by Edmond de GAVARDIE of Squadron No. 12 The first logbook was bound in cloth between April 21, 1915, and August 12, 1916; the second was bound from August 13, 1916, through 1919–1920. These logbooks record all of his sorties as well as the dogfights in which he participated, enriched with annotations such as “I am wounded” on February 7, 1917 (he is indeed noted as having been seriously wounded that day in his biography). Airships shot down and notable engagements are marked with a cross pattée. Included are three photographs of Edmond de Gavardie in his airplane, one of which is dedicated to his father: “To my beloved father, with fond memories—Edmond, January 16, 1916,” a full-length photograph with the inscription “To our national Ludion, December 17, 1916,” along with a letter dated December 14, 1916, addressed to Adjutant Gavardie informing him of the deaths of Lieutenant Coutand, de Lanier, de Cuviller, and Ringuet (on December 2, 1916, as part of Squadron C53), who went missing during a photographic mission, accompanied by a photograph of graves. A fragment of thick card covered with paper, probably from an Edmond de Gavardie Nieuport aircraft
